3 Warning Signs of Impacted Wisdom Teeth
Wisdom teeth are the last teeth in the mouth to break through the gums and they are located furthest back in the mouth. They usually begin to form in pre-teen years. By late teen years they begin to erupt into the oral cavity, if there is a room.
It is very often that the mouth lacks the adequate space for these teeth, what leads to either:
- full impaction (the tooth never fully erupts into the mouth) or
- partial impaction (the tooth only has room to partially break through the gums)
Partially or completely impacted wisdom teeth could raise complications such as gum disease, damage to adjacent teeth, teeth disease, and cyst development. Sometimes, there are no symptoms present though.
Three primary warning signs of impactes wisdom teeth:
- Pain and tender gum in the back of the mouth
- Swelling and/or red or bleeding gums
- Chewing difficulty
Secondary symptoms:
- Bad taste in your mouth
- Unpleasant breathe
- Ear ache
- Headache
- Difficulty opening mouth
